The New York University Children’s Chorus is an outreach of the university to the children and the parents of the community. The program is free of charge, and is open to any young singer between the ages of six and twelve (Grades 1-6) Children must be 6 years old at the beginning of the school year to be a part of the group. There are no auditions or previous singing experience needed but we do require that the child wants to sing and that the family makes a commitment to the rehearsals. Students are only allowed 3 absences per semester. If a child misses more than 3 rehearsals, he or she will be asked to leave the group for the semester.
In the chorus , the singers will learn proper vocal technique, musicianship, and quality repertoire. They will also have the opportunity to sing and perform with the other members of the group. New singers are accepted at the beginning of each semester (September and January).
We meet every Tuesday during the NYU Fall and Spring semesters. The Novice Chorus meets from 3:45-4:45 and the Apprentice Chorus meets from 4:50-5:50 at the Frederick Loewe Theater at 35 West 4th St.
